However, please be aware that students aged 16-17 will be mixing with students aged 18 or older in their classes and social activities. We do not provide 24-hour supervision for students aged 16-17.
All students at IH Aberdeen receive a high level of support from our staff throughout their experience. We will do our best to ensure that your child’s course and time at IH Aberdeen will be a happy one.
Please read all information below, regarding students aged 16-17 studying at IH Aberdeen.
Before booking a course for a student aged 16 and 17 to study at IH Aberdeen, parents and guardians should read the Information for parents and guardians of students aged 16 & 17.
Students aged 16-17 are not yet considered adults by UK law. When you enroll a student aged 16-17, you must complete and sign IH Aberdeen’s ‘Parental Consent form for under 18s’ and return it to us.
IH Aberdeen will send you the form at the time of booking. We cannot confirm enrolment of a student, until we have received this form.
The form must be completed, signed and dated by the student’s parent or guardian. You must return it to IH Aberdeen before the student’s course commences.

If a student aged 16-17 is travelling to the UK to study, the student’s parent or guardian must complete, sign and date the Parental Travel Consent form for under 18s, and return to us.
IH Aberdeen will send you the form at the time of booking.
On arrival in Aberdeen, we strongly recommend that all students aged 16-17, use IH Aberdeen’s transfer service.
IH Aberdeen does not recommend that students aged 16-17 make their own arrangements to travel to their accommodation. However, if this is the case, we will require further consent from the student’s parent or guardian.

IH Aberdeen has a protection policy to safeguard students aged under 18 years old who are studying with us. IH Aberdeen’s Welfare Officer is the appointed person for safeguarding children.

If you require IH Aberdeen to arrange accommodation for the student, the only suitable option for 16 & 17 year olds is Homestay Half Board. Other homestay options or Student Residence are not suitable for student aged under 18.
IH Aberdeen pays close attention to the quality of our homestay accommodation. All families and homes have been inspected by a member of IH Aberdeen’s team. We will do our best to ensure students a comfortable and enjoyable homestay experience in Aberdeen.
IH Aberdeen only places 16-17 year olds in homestays where the hosts have received checks to ensure their suitability. IH Aberdeen asks parents to be aware that on occasion students aged 16-17 may be placed in a Homestay with others of a similar age or older. In accordance with British Council legislation the following will be maintained:
16 & 17 year olds are permitted to stay with a relative or family friend during their course at IH Aberdeen. However, contact details of this accommodation must be provided on the parental consent form.

If there is any type of activity which you are NOT happy for your child to participate in, please state these on the Parental Consent form for under 18s.
